China's Offshore Wind Power Equipment Accelerates Its Advance into Deep and Far Sea Areas

Time:2026-06-15 Hit:

Since the beginning of this year, China has seen continuous innovations in offshore wind power equipment. From the grid connection of 20-megawatt offshore wind turbines to the installation of floating wind power equipment, and the accelerated construction of ultra-high-voltage flexible DC transmission projects, China's offshore wind power equipment industry is rapidly advancing from nearshore to deep and far sea areas.

In February this year, the world's first 20-megawatt offshore wind turbine was successfully connected to the grid in the waters off Fujian Province, achieving 100% localization of key components. Not long ago, the world's largest single-unit-capacity floating offshore wind power platform, the "Three Gorges Linghang," was installed in the waters off Yangjiang, Guangdong Province. This project applied domestically produced special polyester fiber mooring lines for the first time, with a single line capable of withstanding a tensile force of approximately 1,300 tons.

Yang Kun, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Electricity Council, stated: As of now, China's installed offshore wind power capacity has reached XX million kilowatts, accounting for 52% of the global total, firmly ranking first in the world. China has formed a complete industrial chain covering turbine manufacturing, survey and design, construction and installation, operation and maintenance, and grid connection management, demonstrating significant large-scale advantages.

China's offshore wind power equipment accelerates its advance into deep and far sea areas

At present, the self-sufficiency and controllability of China's offshore wind power industrial chain continue to strengthen. In key equipment sectors, core components and devices such as high-capacity turbines, ultra-long blades, floating platforms, permanent mooring ropes, flexible DC converter valves, and dynamic submarine cables have consistently achieved breakthroughs in localization.

Yang Kun, Executive Vice Chairman of the China Electricity Council, stated: In the future, China's offshore wind power development must take industrial upgrading as a breakthrough point. On one hand, it is essential to enhance technological reserves, continuously strengthen technological breakthroughs and localized substitutions, and consolidate the overall resilience and security of the offshore wind power industry. On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen industrial collaboration, promote the integrated development of offshore wind power with power transmission, marine engineering, energy storage, green hydrogen, and other related industries, improve overall efficiency and quality across the upstream and downstream, and stimulate the synergy of the entire industrial chain.

As the development of nearshore resources gradually matures, deep and far sea areas will become the main battlefield for China's offshore wind power development. The 15th Five-Year Plan clearly states that by 2030, the cumulative grid-connected installed capacity of offshore wind power will reach 100 million kilowatts.

Editor's Note:

As China's offshore wind power moves from nearshore to deep and far sea areas, the requirements for wind measurement sensors are also increasing. High salt mist, strong typhoons, irregular movements of deep-sea floating platforms—these extreme environments pose severe challenges to the reliability of wind speed and direction sensors.

Qingdao Maritech Technology Co., Ltd. has been deeply engaged in the field of propeller-type wind speed and direction sensors. Its products have passed the national meteorological wind tunnel test at 90 meters per second and can operate stably in extreme environments such as super typhoons, providing reliable guarantees for accurate wind measurement and yaw control in deep and far sea wind power.
